Living room gets attention with occasional, accent introductions

Occasional and accent furniture resources came to market with a breadth of new product aimed at boosting interest and sales in the category.

The mix aims to complement interest and growth in the living room segment - both stationary and motion upholstery - with functional and stylish new pieces offering materials and finishes that engage a wide mix of consumers.
While some of the product continues to come from China due to its capabilities in metal, glass and stone, the mix also included product from Vietnam, India, Mexico and even the United States.quality modern bedroom furniture

Legends Furniture, for example, had 75 new domestic SKUs at market, one of its largest introductions in memory in U.S.-made product. These items ranged from home entertainment walls and consoles to new accents made in is Tolleson, Ariz., factory.

Among the standouts were a group of accent chests available in multiple finishes. These included two-, three- and four-door chests retailing at $299, $399 and $599 and available in multiple finish options.

While home entertainment remains the company's main domestic category, the accents drew interest from buyers.I think there is really opportunity for us there," said Tim Donk, director of marketing and business development.

Horizon Home's occasional introductions included two new table groups made in Mexico, featuring hand-forged metal bases and marble tops. Both received mostly positive response from dealers who liked the mixed-media approach the company brings to the category.

Occasional furniture in Horizon's two new wood collections - the coastal-inspired Pelican Bay and Big Timber - also are produced in Mexico. These received largely positive response, including commitments from larger dealers, due to their solid wood story and multi-step finishes.Riverside Furniture showed new Vietnam-sourced occasional as part of its Sonora and Bella Grigio collections. Dealers responded well to the finishes and styling, particularly on the Italian farmhouse-inspired Bella Grigio, which featured two cocktail table options, including a smaller version retailing at $249 and a larger lift-top table retailing at $299.

The company also continues to receive positive response on its India-sourced accents, which combine wood, metal and stone in a range of eclectic styles.

More often than not, however, the occasional and accent mix was from a variety of countries that included China. Officials said that they plan to stay in China for the time being as its capabilities in the category, particularly in metal, glass and stone mixed media, far exceed that of India, Vietnam or Indonesia.

For example, Meva Furniture's showroom featured about 30 first-time-seen pieces from a variety of countries that included India, China and Vietnam.

"They are wary of China product," said Siddharth Baranwal, Meva operations manager. "Some people asked if the tariffs are affecting the price, and we said no because we haven't gotten new shipments (from China)."
